Trump blames Cleveland Indians for changing their name to Cleveland Guardians



Former President Donald Trump has criticized the Cleveland Indian football team for changing its name to the Cleveland Guardians.

Indians have already announced they are changing their name - a move that came after Washington Redskins dropped their nickname for the Washington Football Club. Critics argue that the names - especially the Redskins and Indians who were the "Wahoo" logo - are annoying the American people. A number of colleges, universities and high schools have also changed some of the nicknames related to indigenous peoples, racism and past beliefs and the acceptance of the mistreatment of the American people.

The Major League Baseball team began their Guardianship name on Friday. The nickname corresponds to the ancient Traffic Artists on the Cleveland bridge.

The new name did not impress Trump who spoke politically with other sports figures and institutions including LeBron James and the National Football League. Trump had previously expressed an interest in becoming an NFL team with USFL bosses in New Jersey.

"Can anyone believe that the Cleveland Indians, a popular and valuable baseball franchise since they took over the name in 1915, changed their name from the Guardians," Trump said in a statement. Such a disgrace, and I can assure you that the people who are most angry with the Indians are our country. Would it not be a privilege to have a group called the Cleveland Indians, and would it not be rude to tear that name and logo on those jerseys? The people of Cleveland are not happy and I, as a former baseball fan, do not believe that things like this happen. A small group of people, with conflicting ideas and policies, are forcing these changes to destroy our culture and heritage. At some point, people will never take it again, ”Trump said.

Indians will be Guardians of the 2022 season. The group asked for ideas from the fans and reached out to the Guardians citing its local links.

"We think the Guards are different and real in Cleveland," Indian business president Brian Barren said on Friday. “There is a little bit about Traffic Keepers and more about what the Guardians represent and the vision of security. For us and our research, the people of Cleveland are very protective of each other. They are protecting our city, they are protecting the 'Earth' and everything about it.

“That is the essence, the strength of the people here in Cleveland and northeastern Ohio and honesty. Loyalty to Cleveland, loyalty to each other as team members, as co-workers, as family and friends. All of those things that are part of the ‘Keepers’ thing are starting to pull out of perspective. ”
