USA Against Iran People's Olympic Basketball Basketball, Preview, Prediction: Will the American Team cover the Big Spread? (July 28)
The basketball team in the United States has now lost its last three games before its match against Iran, in what has become a successful match for the American and Iranian people.
Both teams lost their first match of the group stage, the United States to France, the new favorites to win Group B, and Iran to the Czech Republic.
This is the matchup the United States is expected to dominate, considering it to be listed as 41.5-point favorite. BetMGM does not provide funding for the American Group.
Is it fair to expect an American group to pass through Iran, or can the Iranian people wage a war against the impossible?
The United States started with Damian Lillard, Zach LaVine, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo in the loss to France, but they are not the players given the best games. Juueue Holiday saw the team-high 27:52 and as a player it seems that coach Popovich wants to see on the floor both his performance and his defense.
In general, the US fired horribly against France, and some of them may be rusty or it may be possible for Rudy Gobert to continue to excel defensively, without court or rules. The US shot just 36.2% including 31.2% from a 3-point loss rate.
In addition, self-defense is much easier for these less-than-sports teams than the Americans. Under foreign law, there is no three-second self-defense crime. That means the US can’t hit a 3-point shot, the defenses are able to pack the paint and prevent backsliding while reducing the chances of driving.
So if the 3rd ball doesn’t fall, the United States can certainly count on its defense and the runner to end the victory, right?
I say no, because there is no real defense. Green and Adebayo are both under and out of the holiday, no one I can trust will shut down the cycle threat. The team offered to defend themselves at first point of view with the build of the register, it's okay if the shots fall regularly or you go to the free throw line.
But that leads us to more matters. The United States is embroiled in a filthy hunt and is playing towards an NBA road game where referees call grazes as fouls and a trip to the free lines is a dozen minutes. This is not happening. If the United States team can’t position itself as elite makers, surely the referees won’t dismiss them.
Iran is the only Olympic team without the current NBA talent in its list. Their list was compiled by a 36-year-old man, Hamad Haddadi, a 7-and-a-half-foot center of the Sichuan Blue Whales. Haddad played a few times for the Grizzlies over a decade ago but scored only 2.2 points and a 2.5 rebound in 7 minutes per game. You’ve played meaningful minutes across the country, though. Of the 10 times in international football he has scored 18.3 points and 13.9 returns.
Hadadad will try to seal the paint and clean the glass against a small US court.
Haddad is assisted by Behnam Yakhchalidehkordi (26), who plays a professional career in Germany. In the opening match against the Czech Republic, Yakhchalidehkordi played well with 23 points, four assists and three rebounds.
The past of the two, however, is not very talented here. Iran is ranked 23rd in the FIBA rankings, and this is the country's first Olympic appearance since 2008. They have not won a game in the Summer Games since 1948.
Yes, in 1948. The Iranian people pushed their first victory almost 73 years against the Czech Republic, but it was every 4th quarter. They were under 16 in the first half and 21 starting in the fourth quarter, and the final score of 84-78 did not accurately reflect how much they lost the game.
