The Reds got Luis Cessa, Justin Wilson from the Yankees
In an unexpected deal, the Yankees have announced that they have sold the winners Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson to the Red in exchange for a player who will be named later. Cincinnati has nominated Ashton Goudeau and Edgar GarcÃa to open a 40-man bloc.
Red's appeal is the addition of Cessa, who was the most reliable bull of his time in the Bronx. The right hand can do many innings and has been working successfully on the pitcher for the past few years. Since the start of the 2019 campaign, Cessa has thrown 141 innings for a 3.64 ERA / 4.34 FIP ball. He has worked harder this season, working for a career-best 2.82 ERA over 38 1/3 frames.
The Cessa does not have the losses to hit the most rescues. His 19.3% strike rate is below 24.5% of the league's bullpen arms, and his ever-changing strike rate is equally effective. That’s basically true in the entire big Cessa league, however, and you’ve got a fair amount of success by throwing strikes and avoiding even more destructive communications. The 29-year-old moves the world balls to a huge 56.8% clip this year, and Statcast shows he was among the top 20 percent of parks in suppressing opponents ’exit speeds, difficult communications and drums.
While the Red did not look likely to make the playoffs in 2021, the Cessa acquisition gives Cincinnati the longest-serving piece of bullfight in the league this year. The 29-year-old earns just $ 1.05MM for $ 1.05 this time of year (less than $ 400K of it to be paid), and is controlled by 2023 on trial. With the exception of the Red no doubt hoping to fight in 2022 (and currently not giving up hope of a late push this season), they are taking on an affordable, long-term bullpen holding a clear appeal.
Wilson has a long production record, but is in the middle of a disappointing campaign. Southpaw sets an ERA of less than 4.00 each time from 2017-20, but has only managed 7.50 points using 18 frames so far. Wilson's pace has slowed, and his high level of bragging has dropped to 18.1%. As a result of their cattle struggles, Cincinnati figures give him a chance to repair the ship, but it is possible that the Red agreed to take Wilson's salary to encourage the Yankees to part with Cessa
New York signed Wilson for the winter in a complex deal. Southpaw made $ 2.85MM this year (about $ 1MM remaining). You have 2.3MM player options for the future. If you order, Cincinnati will host the $ 7.15MM ($ 1.15MM purchase) club for its services. Given Wilson's struggle this year, it looks like he will be interested in using his player's choice - but doing so will give the Red club a 2023 club prize worth just $ 500K north of the league's lowest salary.
Goudeau apologized for resigning last season. Now he looks like he can get back on the phone after making five MLB appearances for Red this year. He threw 31 innings over eight appearances (five starts) with Triple-A in Louisville, operating at a 4.65 ERA with a rate below 16.1%. GarcÃa has spent most of this campaign with the Bats. He was very good at Triple-A but hit harder than his exit from the league..
