Attorney Scott Boras was among those awaiting A's decision in court

The resolution of the A-pursuit of a new ballpark could illuminate more than just the future of the team.

Attorney Scott Boras, representing the third baseman Matt Chapman, was at the Coliseum on Monday and was asked if there had been any discussions with A about the long-term extension of the two-time Platinum Glove winner, who has been a mediator for the first time this season and would to strike a free agent after the 2023 season.

“I think the A’s are in a situation where they’re trying to get their stadium, and until then I’m not sure where they want to go with the players,” Boras said. “And it is clear that the length of time allows for some time to do so. We’ll see them take care of their infrastructure first and then target the players ’space over time, I think. ”

Boras attended the signing of first-round nominee Max Muncy a day before the Oakland City Council was scheduled to vote on a non-binding ballot for the proposed A $ 12 billion waterfront ballpark project and development. The proposal that goes before the council on Tuesday provides a framework for what might be in the final paper.

The A is proposing $ 1 billion, a private ballpark that will be improved on the Coliseum, their home since 1968. The lease of A at the Coliseum extends beyond the year 2024.

“Growing up in the Bay Area, you’d like to hear the day before,” Bras said. "But from the player's point of view, it can be seen how they think about that."

A-officials have also visited Las Vegas several times after receiving permission from Major League Baseball to explore immigration opportunities. Las Vegas has won franchises in other games in recent years, with the NHL the Golden Knights first appearing in 2017 and the NFL riders from Oakland to Las Vegas before the 2020 season.

"I think Las Vegas is definitely going to be a city with four big sports franchises, I don't think there's a question about that," Boras said. “The question is when. And if they do (get the MLB franchise), I'm sure they'll build a dome. ”
