Nick Diaz Will Fight Robbie Lawler In UFC 266
The famous leader of Diaz's army, Nick Diaz, is officially returning to the octagon. He will share the octagon with his one-time opponent, former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 266.
Dana White announced the fight on Tuesday using Kevin Iole. This will be the second round of 5 rounds in UFC history, which will not be a battle for a major event or title.
The first was a welterweight bout between Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards at UFC 263.
17 years ago, at UFC 47, two rising stars, Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler shared the octagon for the first time. That night, Nick Diaz served a second “unsympathetic” loss in the UFC by KO in 1:31 of the second round.
After the fight, Robbie managed to win the EliteXC middleweight and UFC welterweight titles, while Nick won titles at Strikeforce, WEC, and IFC. They both had a good job after their first tournament, but the final battles did not benefit them due to their reputation.
The last time Nick Diaz (26-9-0) beat the UFC octagon 6 years ago, was against The Spider, Anderson Silva.
Nick Diaz lost that battle by a similar decision, but both fighters failed their drug tests, squandered the war and entered a non-existent race.
Robbie is still an active fighter, but that doesn't give him a chance. After Tyron Woodley ousted Robbie from UFC 201 with a first-round KO, the "brutal" lost 4 of 5 fights. This 39-year-old fighter was unlike him in his previous wars. The last time he won against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 214 with the same decision.
The card is not yet finalized, but we can say that the Co-main event will be 5 round fights between Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler, and the big event tonight will be a Featherweight title fight between current champion Alexander Volkanovski and # 2 rival Brian “T- city ”Ortega, both of whom lost only 1 job.
