Former Masters and American Open champion Angel Cabrera has been sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Former US Open and Masters golf champion arrested for assaulting ex-girlfriend

The 51-year-old Argentine golfer has been convicted in Cordoba province of assault, intimidation and harassment of his ex-partner - but has denied any wrongdoing.

The Argentine golfer has been convicted of assault, intimidation and harassment of Cecilia Torres Mana, his partner between 2016 and 2018.

The 51-year-old received his sentence in a court in the province of Cordoba, 500 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, after being arrested by Interpol police in Rio de Janeiro in January.

He has denied any wrongdoing and will begin serving his sentence immediately.

Mrs Torres Mana first brought charges against the former champion, followed by two other women who did the same.

"Her condition is much worse than that, she has other cases with warrants," prosecutor Laura Battistelli told Todo Noticias.

Cabrera went to the United States in July last year, without seeking permission, which led to the province of Cordoba requesting his arrest.
