Return: Mexico 1, El Salvador 0
Mexico won Group A in the Concacaf Gold Cup, winning 1-0 in a thrilling and highly competitive match against El Salvador at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas on Sunday.
Luis Alfonso RodrÃguez hit the goal of the game to speed up El Tri, although both teams had plenty of chances in the return game and in front of the crowd where both countries were well represented. As a result, Mexico climbed to the top of the group with seven points from their three Group Stage games, while El Salvador are ready to earn a place by six points after winning each of the first matches.
The match was full of action, with El Tri striking out the winner in the 26th minute by finishing with Rodriguez. The Tigres UANL outer rear makes the charging drop off on the side of the ride before the feed run from Héctor Herrera, makes a single cut and is not afraid of the stray gun before sitting back on the net.
Mexico's goal was another two minutes after Rogelio Funes Mori's shot was fired, forcing El Salvador goalkeeper Mario González to save both hands, leaving his side one goal behind at half-time. Funs Mori got another gold chance just on the other side of the halftime whistle, but the Monterrey striker was again denied another great save from Gonzalez, after finding a beautiful ball from Herrera setting up the opportunity.
El Salvador are very close to the second-half strikers, for the first time just hours after a Mexican transfer put Joaquin Rivas at gunpoint and forced Mexican goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera to restrain himself. Joshua Pérez then had a chance to make money at home, but saw the shooting blocked. Alexander LarÃn also came just two minutes away from the leveler in the 70th minute kicking a free kick that looked towards the top corner of Mexico's goal, but the effort ended the side-looking goal.
